8 – What is the Value of my National Cash Register?
This is what you really want to know, but it is a very tricky subject The market has changed over the last decade. What people find collectable and desirable on the antiques market is always changing. In addition, there are hundreds of options and styles of registers to value and compare.
However, if you send me some information and pictures by email and a small fee, I will reply with an appraisal of your machine.
Brass machines are worth min $125 for common machines in poor condition and they only go up from there, but this is a huge area of type, finish rarity, condition special features, originality etc. The values vary greatly!
A note about plain metal machines or metal machines with the simulated wood grain cases like models 717, 720, 736 842 842-EL 852 862-2C 942 etc or machines after 1920’s with gray cases or more modern electric machines.
I am afraid these wood grain and steel machines are just not
desirable like their ornate brass ancestors.
The collecting world has not realized that these plain registers are disappearing as fast as the brass machines once did , they soon won’t be around. Thus, I have found they are not worth much, most are difficult to sell because they have no visual appeal. I tell people they are worth $100 or less (a lot less). The narrow, plain, metal machines (like 720) sometimes get painted in high gloss paint and labeled Coke, Pepsi, Harley, etc. They sell for around $400-500 painted up.
In the 1940-60’s NCR made chrome smooth metal machines and these are sometimes more valuable for people who collect diner or ice cream parlor items. They can be worth $500.

My father has tasked me with finding out what model and year this old national cash register is from. Any idea on how to find the model and serial numbers?
Wish I could post a picture. He wants to restore the brass and make it look like it would when it was new.
He is not selling it so we really don’t care of it’s worth, but it will be on display in is antiques room in the basement.
My NCR Serial Number and model number is located under the drawer. open the door and look underneath. Mu machine was born 6/16/1912. Also located there is the guarantee!

We have a 1909 NCR Brass Cash Register Model 542 Serial#862787 that is totally restored and 100% functional still partially in it’s shipping crate. It has a marble shelt with a wooden base, original paper wheels, 90% of the original keys, autographic box, and some paperwork including restoration details. This register originally was in a store called Mack & Kennedy (on the name plate on top) in Grand Falls, NY. Then made it’s way to a stone in Austin, Texas, downtown where we bought it from a proprietor. This is a gorgeous piece that will compliment your store, club, bar, or restuarant AND it works. Please reply in this thread if you are seriously interested

I have a Model #410 serial # 673130, can you tell me what an appraisal would cost??/
I have a 1906 serial no. 501966 ‘candy store’ model’ which has been nickel re-plated, in the dolphin pattern, with the side receipt printer (not sure what that is called). It has a white marble coin slab, which looks like a replacement, and the ‘amount purchased’ sign, an obvious modern reproduction, on top. it is working, with the exception that the cash drawer doesn’t always close. I am not looking to sell, but am interested in its current value, and was also wondering, all other things being equal, what determines the value of these wonderful machines.
Hi, I have a NCR #336 serial #11570083. It was built for Leary & Sons in Gratiot, Wi on 8-19-12. Everything works or so it seems to me. My mom and dad had this when they had their bar back in the ’70’s. Now I have it with cleaning out the house. It is missing the top piece, but I don’t remember ever seeing it as I don’t know where they got the register from. It does have the long glass pieces on both sides though. I have no clue what this is worth but would like to sell it. It is very, very heavy!
I have NCR cash register. Serial # S160939H @ Model # 1064-G. Looks like the machine is refurbished based on the “S” designation. DO you know what year manufactured or if there would be a high collector interest in this cash register
I am about to sell a 1909 Nickel model 421. I haven’t seen much anywhere on a 421. It has the upgraded ornate nickel plated brass base. It is in good working condition, but has some wear in places. It has not been restored in any way with the exception of some gentle cleaning and re-lubricating and a few screws replaced. no top sign. Just looking for a ballpark on value.
I have a model 317 nickel plated 1904 NCR. It is cleaned and in great working condition. I am having trouble finding out the market value of this unit. Any help appreciated
I’m interested in a valuation, what is the cost?
I have a model 92, serial # 380097 with the oak cabinet and multiple drawers in excellent condition. Everything looks original with no damage, but I’m missing the keys for it. I’m guessing it was manufactured in 1904, and I was curious to know the value. No blemishes or chips in the cabinet, and it has all the original National brass logos on both sides and the back. It also has the brass guards on each leg, and the bells inside the cabinet are included as well.
I’d love to find some keys to fit if they can be located or reproduced off of the serial number too.
